Rare breeds to qualify for Stud Book accolade

The Kennel Club has updated the rules governing its Accredited Breeder Scheme Stud Book Accolade, so that it is now more accessible to breeders of non-CC breeds.

Previously this accolade was restricted to breeders who had bred three dogs which had won their way into the Kennel Club Stud Book – something difficult to achieve for a dog of a non-CC breed unless they had performed well at a field trial or obedience competition, for example.
Now a rule change allows Accredited Breeders to claim the Stud Book Accolade if they have bred three dogs of a non-CC breed which have each won Best of Breed in breed classes and/or Imported Register classes at three UK championship shows.

Bill Lambert, Health and Breeder Services Manager, commented: “We have made this important change to our Stud Book Accolade as a direct result of feedback from Accredited Breeders who specialise in the rare breeds. It is only fair that these breeders should be recognised for their efforts alongside breeders of CC breeds, and the Kennel Club is delighted that this change to the accolade will reflect that recognition.”

The rule change: Stud Book Accolade to be awarded to breeders who have bred three dogs which have won a Kennel Club Stud Book Number or equivalent*. (New wording underlined.) [*For non-CC breeds, a dog which has won three BOB awards in breed classes and/or Imported Register classes at UK championship shows equates to a Kennel Club Stud Book number.]

Accredited Breeders of non-CC breeds who wish to apply for this accolade should send the names of three dogs they have bred, as well as their three qualifying championship show wins, to abs@thekennelclub.org.uk or Accredited Breeder Scheme, The Kennel Club, 1 – 5 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London W1J 8AB.
