The Kennel Club has announced the 56 breeders who have qualified for the first ever Kennel Club Breeders’ Competition final.
Over the past twelve months, dog breeders around the country have competed in the Breeders’ Competition, which is sponsored by Agria Pet Insurance. Breeders have showcased their breeding talents by competing with teams of four dogs that have all been bred by them.
Launched at Manchester , the competition quickly developed in popularity seeing as many as 94 breeder teams take part in some Groups at General Championship Shows. Furthermore, many single breed shows have had a similarly impressive uptake, such as the East Anglian Whippet Club in July 2009 which saw eight breeder teams competing.
The finalists are: Parke’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Maun’s Norwegian Elkhound, Wilkinson’s Border Collie, Sim’s Bichon Frise, Crème’s Dobermann, Miller’s Boxer, Pinkerton’s German Wirehaired Pointer, Girling’s Border Terrier, Singleton’s Basenji, Jackson’s Finnish Lapphund, Sandiford’s Gordon Setter, Beck’s Poodle (Min), Gregory’s Border Collie, Wilkinson’s Min Pinscher, Gourley & Leonard’s English Toy Terrier, Rupniak’s Chinese Crested, Arnold’s Pug, Briant & Routledge’s Hamiltonstovare, Phillips & Mann’s Retriever (Curly Coated), Bannister’s Bedlington Terrier, Upton’s Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla, Moores Collie (Smooth), Dean’s Estrela Mountain Dog, Robertshaw’s Pointer, Webster’s Spaniel (Cocker), Morris’s Whippet, Baker’s Parson Russell Terrier, Abbott’s Spanish Water Dog, Dowson’s Australian Shepherd, Ellis’ Alaskan Malamute, Ryall’s Afghan Hound, Bradley’s Irish Terrier, Cawthera-Purdy’s Pomeranian, Kirkwood’s Samoyed, Mottram’s Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Siddle’s Pointer, Ward-Davies, Brown & Hutchings Boxer, Corkhill’s Norwich Terrier, Smith’s Alaskan Malamute, Ergis Dachshund (MSH), Ralph’s BSD, Stirling’s Norwegian Buhund, Whybrow’s Kooikerhondje, Harwood’s Poodle (Min), Kennedy’s Kooikerhondje, Johnson’s Tibetan Terrier, Bryans Japanese Shiba Inu, Hughes’ Bouvier Des Flandres, Hughes’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Carpanini’s Retriever (Labrador), Williams Dachshund (MSH), Dunhill’s Japanese Shiba Inu, Judge’s Portugese Podengo, Ogden’s Griffon Bruxellois, Kugow & Holt’s Dachshund (MWH), Diffey’s Shih Tzu. The competition will be judged by Jeff Horswell on Friday at 5.35 in the main ring.
