In a global first, Eukanuba, premium dog food manufacturer, announced a unique cooperation at the European show with the Fédération Cynologique International (FCI) and The American Kennel Club (AKC) in a unique competition within the world of dog shows:

‘The Eukanuba World Challenge’.

Doing a dog show on such a global scale is a really fantastic and unique accomplishment. I anticipate seeing the crème de la crème of international dog handling at the shows and can’t wait to see who will be triumphant as the ‘Eukanuba World Challenge’ Champion,” enthused Michael Canalizo, Director of Events at AKC speaking at the press conference last weekend in Zagreb, at the European Show 2007.

Eukanuba, the FCI and AKC share a common passion to encourage dogs to reach their true potential.

The FCI will work closely with the Kennel Clubs to ensure the best dogs compete in the Eukanuba World Challenge. We expect this challenge to bring excitement within the breeder community and being selected as the dog to represent your country at the AKC / Eukanuba Championship and in the Eukanuba World Challenge signifies an important recognition for the achievements of these dogs and their owners” said Karl Reisinger, vice-president of the FCI.

Eukanuba World Challenge PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENT

Eukanuba offers for 2007, 40 qualifying dogs from around the world a chance to compete in the Eukanuba World Challenge during the AKC / Eukanuba National Championship 2007 on December 1-2, 2007 in Long Beach, California, North America.

Eukanuba is thrilled to create this unique opportunity for breeders world-wide in conjunction with the FCI and the AKC. We hope to find many excellent dogs that will impress, not only the judges, but breeders and dog owners throughout the world”, comments David Morgan, Communication Manager Eukanuba

40 dogs and their owners (maximum two people per dog) will be invited for a one-week, all expenses paid trip to represent their country. This trip will include an invitation to the Eukanuba / AKC Championship arena where the dogs will participate in two intense days of challenges within their breed classes concluding with the Best in Show judging.

The Kennel Clubs and the FCI will work closely together during the selection process.

The team of 40 qualifying dogs will be announced on November 1st, 2007

In the UK CC winning dogs will have an opportunity to compete and there will be a points system to find the top dog based on group and BIS wins at UK All Breed General Championship Shows. This will be compiled and published throughout the summer, exclusively in OUR DOGS both in print and online. These points will be backdated from earlier in the year and will finish at the end of September 2007, thus allowing for any arrangements to be made in advance of the event in early December.

In the first year it is recognised that some breeders may not have the necessary papers and tests required for travel to the United States.

"This is something that the Eukanuba team at shows will be happy to discuss with exhibitors" said Mike Bloxsome of Eukanuba UK.

The Eukanuba stand will be at Blackpool and Windsor shows over the next few weeks.

David Morgan of Eukanuba speaking in Croatia said:

"We would like to inform you of the development regarding the official media partnership we have engaged upon with Our Dogs.

Our Dogs will follow the challenge closely throughout the rest of the year and will feature the participating champion dogs and their owners in their newspaper, website and e-newsletters."

Vince Hogan, Managing Director of Our Dogs responded:

"With a prize of $10,000 to the winner, it really gives something special back to exhibitors, plus a trip to California in December for the dog and two people...sounds like a good idea to me!
Vince went on to say, "This unique and innovative development raises the world of show dogs to new levels of exhibitor involvement, reward and excitement and fits hand in hand with Our Dogs policy of covering the best dog show activities worldwide. As communications make the world a smaller place, an event such as this, culminating in a spectacular finale in America, is now a reality and Our Dogs is well positioned both in print and online to bring you every winning dog along the way...right through to the Eukanuba World Challenge Champion in December!"

Further announcements regarding the Challenge will appear in Our Dogs, inprint and online over the next few weeks....so, watch this space!
