Eukanuba World Challenge

Eukanuba World Challenge 2011

Swiss Top Dog Event 2011

The annual Swiss Top Dog contest, sponsored by Eukanuba, was held during the Lausanne International Show. In previous years, 25 of the top Swiss dogs competed for the opportunity to represent Switzerland at the Eukanuba World Challenge 2011 final in Orlando, Florida in December.
This year a slightly different format was in place for the six top winning dogs competing. It was based on a ranking system of points they gained for CACIB's, RCACIB's, Group placing and BIS wins at Swiss shows during the qualifying year earning them their place to complete in this prestigious Swiss event. Other criteria set by the Swiss Kennel Club was that the dog must be registered with the Swiss KC during the qualifying year and a resident in Switzerland.
The three highly experienced judges were revealed on the day and introduced to the ringside audience by commentator, Lorna Hastings: Christine Rossier (Switzerland) FCI All Breed Judge, Honorary Member of the Swiss KC; Jorgen Hindse (Denmark) Head of the FCI European Section and President of the Danish Kennel Club and headed up the team who hosted the very successful FCI World Dog Show in 2010; Niksa Lemo (Croatia) FCI International All Breeds judge who has judged around the world at more than 40 National Specialties and FCI World & European Dog Shows. All six dogs were introduced by breed name only and gaited around the ring drawing to a halt and presented to the judges and audience. All six then exited the ring, followed by one at a time re-entering the ring for each of the judges to individually examine all six exhibits. When individual judging of each exhibit was complete, they would exit the ring allowing the next exhibitor to enter the ring. Once all dogs had been assessed by all three judges, the dogs were invited to return to the ring and the judges allocated points on a score sheet to be ultimately tallied by Barbara Muller and Swiss KC president Peter Rub. The dogs in sixth to third place were announced in reverse order and invited back into the ring and presented with their award. The final top two dogs were gaited around the ring to an applauding ringside audience before the winner was announced. The Swiss Top Dog 2011 and Swiss representative for Eukanuba World Challenge 2011 was the Saluki, bred, owned and handled by Christopher Wittwer, Swiss Ch & Int Ch Marhamati-Masun. Runner up was the German Spitz Klein, Swiss & Int Ch Filou v Eichbuel owned and handled by Katharina Walde.
