On Sunday 2nd December the inaugural Eukanuba World Challenge was hosted at the AKC/ Eukanuba National Championship show in Long Beach, California, USA. The FCI and the AKC in partnership with Eukanuba worked with kennel clubs from around the world to create this innovative event.
This World Challenge competition showcased top dogs from 40 countries who competed for the coveted title of the 2007 Eukanuba World Challenge Winner. $10,000 prize money was awarded to the overall winner, $3,000 to the runner up, $2,000 to the first runner up and an additional $5,000 to the respective Kennel Club.
Eukanuba is proud to announce the World Challenge Winner, from the European section, judged by Mr Hiroshi Kamisato from Japan, was the American Cocker Spaniel
“Multi Champion Very Vigie Vamos A La Playa” (Vamos).
This stunning three year old male from Switzerland, bred and owned by Laurent Pichard was successfully handled to his win by Hughes Schuh. Vamos and Hughes defeated 39 of the world’s top winning dogs to scoop up the title Euknauba World Challenge Winner and the respective prize money. Highly renowned judge and FCI Vice president Mr Karl Reisinger had the prestigious task of selecting the ultimate winners.
He commented “that it was an honour for me to judge dogs at such a top level and I was deeply impressed”. Mrs Barbara Muller who represented the Kennel Club of Switzerland was ecstatic that the first World Challenge Winner came from Switzerland.
Ron Menaker, AKC Chairman says “I congratulate Laurent, the breeder and owner of the winning dog, Vamos. This exciting new competition has canine enthusiasts all over the world coming together to celebrate the international language of ‘dog.’”
The runner up winner which came from the Americas and Canada section, judged by Mr Luis Miguel Pinto Teixeria from Portugal, was “Multi Champion Wizard Black de Akido San”. This striking two year old Doberman Pinscher from Argentina, handled to his success by Miguel Vera. He was bred by the Akido San Kennel and is owned by Andrea Laruccia, Carols Souto, and P Cannizzaro & E & T Souza.
The first runner up came from the Asia and Australia section, judged by Mr Miguel Angel Martinez from Argentina. An eye catching three year old Border Collie male from Japan “Champion Border Lane JP Moonshinng Jasper” bred and owned by Hideka Tamura, was successfully handled to his win by Tatsuki Oneyama.
All three section judges agreed that the quality of dogs presented to them were excellent and they sent through what they considered was the very best of the best. Mr Kamisato said” this international show afforded exhibitors not only the opportunity to be able to participate in a wonderful dog show but to also compete with dogs they may not normally compete against.” Mr Pinto Teixeria stated “I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to pass on such high quality dogs and the Doberman I selected was an exquisite representative of the breed”. Mr Martinez said “I am honored to have been invited to take part in this wonderful event and I have very much enjoyed judging. I had excellent dogs to judge and was delighted with my Border Collie.”
There were a number of National Kennel Club Presidents and representatives were present at the event. They unanimously agreed that the competition was superb, the venue, the organization and the hospitality was exceptional. The Eukanuba World Challenge attracted a large and appreciative audience who spectated from a packed ringside.
Plans for developing the event are already being discussed for next year where it looks set to be even more spectacular.
