Newfoundland wins Best in Show at the
European Winner Show 2006 in Helsinki

All eyes in Europe were on the Helsinki Fair Centre last weekend where over 10,000 dogs from 40 countries were competing in the European Winners Show. BIS Judge Hans Lehtinen chose the Newfoundland for his overall winner.
The Finns yet again put on a well staged affair in a venue which is ideal. A number of British judges were on the panel, including Terry Thorn and Zena Thorn Andrews, Ellis Hulme, and Ferelith Somerfield.
Although the entry was good for this show (and certainly higher than recent years), there was some disappointment that it did not reach the anticipated 15,000 plus figures that had been suggested. This meant for a very relaxed atmosphere on the first two days, although Sunday appeared much busier.

IKC to host European Winners Show 2009!

Representatives of the Irish Kennel Club pictured after the FCI delegates meeting in Helsinki on Monday June 12th. Fronting the Irish flag is James Hammond, the victorious Junior Handler who represented Ireland at the show. FCI delegates from Portugal, Rumania, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, Ukraine and Israel amongst others are pictured and representing the IKC were President Sean Delmar, Chairman Nicky Hammond, and Treasurer Rita McCarry Beattie.
The Irish Kennel Club has won its bid to host the FCI's European Winner's Show in 2009 after a resounding vote in favour of the Irish proposal following last weekend’s show in Finland....Full story is available at www.ourdogs.co.uk
