Nurse and dog test positive for
Bovine TB

A veterinary nurse and her pet dog have both tested positive for the cattle form of tuberculosis.

The unnamed nurse, from Cornwall, is believed to have been testing cattle for bovine TB when she herself became infected. There is still uncertainty as to whether she passed the bacteria onto her dog, or vice versa. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) have confirmed the case and an investigation is currently underway. The findings should be available later in the year.

Huge attendance at memorial service

Terry Thorn

OVER 350 people packed into the beautiful St Mary’s Church and its grounds in Kempsey on Wednesday August 27th. for the service of thanksgiving for the life of
Terry Thorn.

Conducted by the Rev Peter Holzapfel the simple service was interspersed with eulogies from nine friends and colleagues from the world of pedigree dogs. These included Mick Horan, Norman Ziman, Jeff Horswell, Warwick Winston, Dr Paolo Dondina, Bill Moores, Eric Smethurst, Keith Nathan and Marion Spavin.

The congregation heard that not only was Terry Thorn a much loved and respected member of dogdom in this country but that his influence abroad was equally strong. This was evidenced by those attending from overseas including Dr Dondina who represented the FCI. OUR DOGS was represented by chairman David Cavill and consultant editor Bill Moores.
