Dog Painting: A history of the dog in art

This is a visually stunning book that for once
can be truly be judged by its glorious cover.

Of course, its appeal isn’t just skin deep; inside this new 2009 edition is a wealth of information and literally hundreds of sumptuous colour photographs depicting paintings of dogs from as early as 1840 onwards.
Full of wit and charm, this book would serve both as a perfect gift for a dog loving individual, or as a marvellous coffee table compendium of over one hundred years of informative history, covering the dogs’ place and beginnings in our ancestors’ time.

As a noted expert on nineteenth century dog painting, Secord examines in depth a wide range of topics: from the earliest dog shows to the pedigree dogs’ social standing - it’s all here in glorious detail. He has virtually unlimited access to the world’s greatest and most exclusive collections of dog paintings, and he has no qualms about providing his readers with unparalleled access.

Only here will you witness the rise of a diversity of breeds, the development of their varied attributes and their changing standards, all in one masterfully constructed tome.
