Endal set to hit the big screen

Endal, Allen and SandraTHE LIFE of the world’s most famous Labrador, Endal, is to be made into a blockbuster movie, following the recent phenomenal success of a bestselling book, written by Allen Parton and his devoted wife Sandra.

The story of Allen and Endal first appeared in OUR DOGS over seven years ago,
when Endal was a youngster who was helping Allen to slowly rebuild his life following an horrific accident during the Gulf War which left Allen with serious head injuries and a loss of memory so severe
that he didn’t even recognise his wife Sandra or his children.

In March 2009 Sky aired a programme entitled The Dog That Saved Our Marriage, which appeared at the same time as Endal: How One Extraordinary Dog Brought a Family Back from the Brink, a book written by Allen and Sandra about their lives. The book became an overnight bestseller, and the programme caused ripples around the country with many people who had previously missed out on the Allen and Endal partnership.

One person who saw the programme was film producer Simon Brooks from London. OUR DOGS this week spoke exclusively to Simon on how The Dog That Saved Our Marriage spurred him into action. ‘I was TV channel-hopping that night, and I just caught the last 10 minutes or so where Allen had taken Endal to the vet’s. As a dog owner myself I just felt empathy for Endal, Allen and Sandra and the situation.
After the programme I went straight onto the internet and read everything I could about the Parton family and Endal. Then suddenly I thought, this would make a great movie!’

Dracula… a dog show with real bite!

Wild Fantasy Hocus Pocus
A great turnout of 1500 dogs entered this aptly named show
which takes place in the Transylvania area of Romania!

This was a two day show that attracted entries from 23 countries, including long distance Thailand and USA.
After a great spectacular grand finale where the BIS judge was brought into the BIS ring in a coffin and dressed as Dracula himself, the winner of the Dracula Show this year was a fabulous Yorkshire terrier.

Our exclusive BIS photo from DEYA photography shows the best in show winner Wild Fantasy Hocus Pocus with (from left to right) his owner Nanta Tanscha from Thailand, BIS Judge Petru Muntean, handler Eric Bernard and Mr. Zsolt Lokodi, President of the organisation board.

We can only imagine that such an entrance into the BIS ring will not catch on in the UK! Watch out for more photos and reports on this show in the unbeatable Eurodogs section of OUR DOGS...in print and online.

Down Memory lane

Vince and DerekIn last week’s issue on page 3, we published a photo of our friend, the world famous judge Derek Smith who had kindly spent time with us, going down memory lane! Here we see Derek with Vince Hogan in his very tidy office, going through some of our fantastic archives from the world of dogs, unmatched by any other canine newspaper.

As Derek said, ‘I had a wonderful time and look forward
to going back to go through even more old photos and issues.’

To be honest, time ran out on us and we nearly had to lock Derek in! Watch out for our new feature reliving the best of the past few years in OUR DOGS in 'Down Memory lane' with Derek Smith, you'll love it! Also this week, we are pleased to feature a photo from the Stanley Dangerfield archives, kindly passed onto OUR DOGS by Lucille Dangerfield; again another treasure trove.

Check out the photo below...spot anyone you know? Yes that's Stanley in the centre, and here's a clue..
.Pup of the Year, Bill Havenhand, but who else can you pick out?
Lots more to follow.. and answers to this photo poser next week.

Bill Havenhand

BBC goes to the dogs!

Vince, Dan and Rob

As part of OUR DOGS commitment to the media partnership with the City of Birmingham dog show, OD Managing Director, Vince Hogan, took to the airwaves last Thursday prior to the show at Stoneleigh. At the kind invitation of BBC radio personalities Dan Wheeler (right) and Rob Gurney (left) Vince was on air for over an hour with the boys discussing all matters canine, promoting the show, comparing Crufts with overseas shows and generally educating Rob and Dan who are now confirmed dog addicts. Copious amounts of free gifts and dog treats were taken in (you know what journos are like for freebies!) so look out for Rob and Dan sporting their OUR DOGS T shirts at a dog training club somewhere in the West Midlands.

Dan and Rob go out live for nearly two hours from Monday to Thursday on BBC WM, 95.6, just as seen on our photo kindly taken by the delightful researcher Katie. Thanks guys for a great night in the studio.
Maybe next year we will see the BBC radio car at the show ground on site? (more freebies for the crew!)
