Advisory Council issues ‘Standard for Breeding Dogs’

Two weeks ago we covered the advice being given to puppy buyers by the Advisory Council on the Welfare Issues of Dog Breeding. At that stage we expressed the view that some of the recommendations were a bit ‘over the top’.
This week we look at the Council’s much heralded ‘Standard for Breeding Dogs’. It attempts to set out formal recommendations for the minimum standards which they say should be met to provide good health and welfare for all dogs involved in breeding. This ‘Standard’ has been sent with the Council’s stamp of approval to Defra civil servants, MPs and Ministers. It therefore cannot simply be dismissed by dog breeders as something to completely ignore.

Hyperdrug – home of the Canine Chemist could save you money on essential wormer
  and flea treatments!

Hyperdrug – home of the Canine Chemist could save you money on essential wormer and flea treatments! Don’t forget that where you see fleas there will undoubtedly be a high risk of tapeworm infestation as the flea is a vector for tapeworm in dogs and cats.
Thanks to the Canine Chemist you can’t afford not to treat your dog for both fleas and worms.

Fipnil is a fipronil based, flea treatment which protects your dog from fleas for 8 weeks and ticks for 4 weeks. Fipnil is the value alternative to Frontline™. Fipnil can also be used on puppies from 8weeks of age weighing more than 2kg. Using the same active ingredient as the brand leader this great value product offers complete protection for your pet and your family. Plus, by keeping your pet flea free you will reduce the risk of tapeworm infestation at source. It must be remembered that in order to protect fully from flea’s it is essential to treat your house with an environmental spray as well as washing the pets bedding on a hot wash to kill the flea eggs and larvae. It is also a good idea to vacuum regularly to wake the larval stage from dormancy in order that the insecticidal flea spray can kill them.

Easimax Dog Wormer is a triple action, full strength wormer, containing the same ingredients in the same concentration and the brand leader.  Easimax will treat for Roundworm, Tapeworm, Hookworm, Whipworm as well as the worm eggs and larvae. You can be sure your dog is covered with Easimax. As an own brand Hyperdrug product you can be assured not only of high quality but exceptional value for money, the ideal Drontal™ alternative.
PLUS ENTER CODE DP9 AND RECEIVE 10% OFF Easimax & Fipnil. Offer valid once per customer.

It was announced late last week that the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee will be taking more evidence at a session to be held in the House of Commons on Wednesday 17th October.  judges envelopes

For some time the numbers of judge's reports we receive by post have been receding and the vast majority of show reports are now sent to OUR DOGS by email.
For this reason - and with the imminent large rises in the cost of first and second class mail - we will no longer send bulk mailings of envelopes to show secretaries.
If you are a judge with appointments this year - or even next year - and you will be posting your report to OUR DOGS, please call along to the stand at any general championship show and collect your pre-paid envelopes.
Alternatively, if you are a secretary and wish to collect envelopes for your show, they will be happy to oblige. And don't worry if you don't get to the champ shows, simply email Ann Cross on across@ourdogs.co.uk or call her on 0161 709 4550. Show reports by email to showreports@ourdogs.co.uk.
Envelopes will be posted in the normal way in the short term but this will cease as from May 1st. As ever both OUR DOGS and our readers are grateful for the efforts of all judges in submitting reports and trust that everyone understand the reasons for the changes.
We live in a changing world!
