Dogs become outstanding members of community

Four dogs from Northorpe, Gainsborough have become outstanding members of the community by achieving the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme (GCDS) Gold Award, with two of the dogs going on to become Pets As Therapy dogs, visiting residential homes for therapeutic visits.
The three Spanish Water Dogs and a Portuguese Podengo, all owned by Wanda Sooby, have achieved the GCDS gold award, the highest award of the UK's largest dog training programme and Wanda is also working with the latest addition to the family, Eccles, a one year old Portuguese Podengo, to achieve the same feat.

Front page story - Kennel Club warns
owners to be vigilant!

So far this year, the British summer weather has been as alarmingly unpredictable as ever - offering chilling cold and searing heat, with no real pattern emerging. With this unpredictability comes a responsibility - making sure dogs are not left unattended in a car which has been an issue at recent Championship shows.
Every year the Kennel Club hears reports of dogs being cooked alive after being left in a car in hot weather. In common with many animals, dogs are extremely sensitive to heat, and even on a mildly warm day they can quickly overheat - even with the car windows open and water available - as temperatures can quick rise to around 50 degrees Celsius.

Discover 200 breeds of dog in london

Despite there being 211 different dog breeds officially recognised in the UK, just ten breeds dominate the canine population in Britain, making up more than half of all pedigree dogs.
Ahead of its Discover Dogs event in London this November, the Kennel Club has revealed that British dog owners are missing out on a plethora of wonderful and interesting breeds. Breeds such as the Hovawart, Hungarian Puli, Russian Black Terrier, Sloughi, Schipperke and Cesky Terrier are being overlooked in favour of the Border Terrier, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Pug and just a handful of others.
For further information on this great day out, please visit www.discoverdogs.org.uk or telephone 020 7518 1012.
