The
Nottingham auctioneers Mellors & Kirk will be holding
a two day sale of Selected Antiques and Works of Art on
Thursday and Friday 5 & 6 February 2004 which includes
several items which may be of interest to those involved
in the world of dogs.
Perhaps the most eye-catching is lot 180 – a pair
of 19th century larger than life sized Italian maiolica
models of seated Dalmatians, some 108cm high. Possibly made
for one of the 19th century international exhibitions, they
are boldly modelled and have survived in remarkably good
condition. They are estimated to sell for £4,000-£5,000.
Auctioneer Nigel Kirk commented that he had never seen anything
in Italian maiolica quite like them (maiolica is tin glazed
earthenware).
The Sale will be on view: Sunday 1 February 12noon-5pm;
Monday 2 February 10am-4pm; Tuesday 3 February 10am-8pm
and mornings of Sale from 8.30am
