Come and see over 200 Shire Horses on display at the Shire Horse Spring Show - the premier heavy horse event of the year, to be held on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March 2006 at the East of England Showground in Peterborough.
The two-day spectacular, organised by the Shire Horse Society and a registered charity, helps raise much needed funds to support the threatened breed and secure its future, especially among the younger generation.
Visitors to the Show, which attracts thousands of crowds from across the country, as well as overseas, will be able to see hundreds of Shire Horses expertly presented and dressed in their traditional glory, with a range of demonstrations and classes featuring in-hand, harness and turnout exhibits.
Plenty of main ring entertainment is scheduled over the two days, including a six-horse team from Germany giving driving displays at the gallop, culminating in a grand parade in the afternoon each day, with the opportunity to visit the horses in their stables enjoying a well-earned rest!
Complementing the horses will be vintage tractors and farm machinery, farriery competitions, a dog agility show and new for this year, sheepdog displays. Other popular attractions, especially for younger visitors, include a Victorian Funfair and a Heritage Farmyard, where a selection of traditional farm animals will be on show. And if that’s not enough, there is also the chance to do a bit of retail therapy with over 200 trade stands, a craft fair and food hall.
Andrew Mercer, Chief Executive said, ‘It is vital that as a nation we continue to support this breed before it becomes too late and the Shire Horse Spring Show is a fantastic way of doing exactly that, offering a superb display of heritage for the whole family to enjoy’.
