Godshill RSPCA home on the Isle of Wight has recently awarded one of its most dedicated volunteers.
Dog-lover Rex Gutteridge, who celebrates his 71st birthday next month, has been a member of the team since he first started doing volunteer work at the centre three years ago and was one of 11 Island volunteers honoured with a Year of the Volunteer medal, in recognition of their service to the community.
Mr Gutteridge takes dogs walking most days, and also offers his services in transporting animals to and from the vets as well as carry out home checks and follow-up visits before and after animals are re-homed from the centre.
"As I am retired, I have plenty of time to help out at the centre, which keeps me active," said Mr Gutteridge, of Queen's Road, Ryde. "Going back a couple of years ago, I used to take the dogs on eight or nine-mile walks but I'm getting older now. All the dogs have their own unique character, every one is different and it's great to see them find a loving home."
Mr Gutteridge was presented with his award by centre manager Paula Sadler, who described him as indispensable.
