Entries in the gundog scurries at the Sussex Game Fair 2005 reached record levels, with more than double the number of competitors from the previous year.
Over 600 entries were received in the Dog & Gun, Pot Black, Partridge Pen and Long Retrieve events, which offered a prize package worth over £1000 from joint sponsors Runnarköp and Vitalin UK.
The gundog scurries made use of the spectacular grounds of Parham Park, with natural cover and hidden obstacles creating some of the most interesting and challenging events that Countryman Fairs have staged.
Once again, Neil Dutton and his Labradors headed the line up in the Dog & Gun, taking 1st place on both Saturday and Sunday with Stan, and also 2nd on the Sunday with Ben. He also managed to take the top spot on both days in the Pot Black, as well as a 2nd on the Saturday.
A vast, uphill Long Retrieve over heathland proved surprisingly tricky, with Mr Norcott’s Didi managing the fastest time of 19.10 seconds on the Sunday. The Partridge Pen also offered some unexpected challenges, with a concealed ditch that surprised both dogs and handlers.
However, it didn’t phase either Paul Winder and Blaze, or Fred Tomkinson and Lucy who achieved the fastest time of 28.29 seconds.
