Ch Ghyllbeck Holcus winning BIS at the LMC Ch Sh ‘03 under judge Mrs Jane Cule
On 19th April 2005 the Large Munsterlander Breed Record Holder Champion Ghyllbeck Holcus passed away after a short illness. Born on 17.07.91 and bred by Mrs Barbara Hargreaves he was sired by the influential Sh Ch Jemas Talent out of the German import Konny v d Langen Weide.
During his long and successful show career he accumulated a total of 38 CC’s, 33 BOB’s and 22 RCC’s, each a breed record. Winning his first CC at 11 months he went on to receive Best of Breed five years in succession at WELKS, from ‘93 to ’97, and Best of Breed at Crufts in three consecutive years, ‘94, ‘95, ‘96 and again in ‘99, and the RCC’s in ‘02 & ‘03. He also gained six Breed Show Best in Show awards.
Although only used very little at stud he produced two Full Champions and two Show Champions enabling him to be Dog World Top Stud in ’97 and Our Dogs Top Sire in ’98 as well as being Dog World Top Dog for the years ’93, ’94, ’95, ’96 & ’97.
A very competent working dog, he won a total of 12 Field Trial awards including 1st prize. He was however not the only quality dog in his litter, as proven by the fact that with sisters Ch G. Melica & Sh Ch G. Molinia they accumulated a total of 51 CC’s & 18 F.T. awards, which is another breed record.
Holcus retired on 5th June 2003 after taking B.I.S. at the Large Munsterlander Club Championship Show in his 12th year.
Sadly, Holcus’s sister Sh Ch G Molinia, winner of 10 CC’s & with whom Holcus did the double four times, including Crufts ‘94, also passed away unexpectedly five weeks later, closing a remarkable chapter in Large Munsterlander history.
