Peter Purves joins DTA advisors

THE LIST of high-profile advisors to Dog Theft Action, the political lobby group set up to compel the authorities to take the growing tide of dog theft more seriously continues to grow with the addition of Crufts commentator and OUR DOGS’ columnist Peter Purves.

DTA Press Officer Margaret Nawrockyi said: "DTA are delighted to welcome TV presenter, commentator and journalist Peter Purves to the panel of expert advisors that share our concerns about the growing number of dog thefts in the UK. Peter has long been connected with the dog world and is keen to offer his valuable support to DTA. We are looking forward to working productively with Peter and our other advisors."

Peter Purves expressed his support for DTA and its aims. He told OUR DOGS earlier this week: "I fully support the aims of the DTA. Anything that helps to coordinate the efforts of those searching for lost dogs or trying to simplify the way in which stolen dogs can be returned to their owners must be applauded and supported. Linking rescue centres with the police effort must be a sensible way forward."

Since its formation at the end of January, the DTA has grown in size and strength and now attracts the support of several organisations and individuals who have serious concerns about dog theft and the lack of action taken by the authorities to tackle this growing tide of criminality affecting dog owners.

Recently, the DTA has arranged to meet representatives from Pet Plan, Dogs' Trust and the National Dog Wardens’ Association at Crufts, and have also had good contact with a number of MPs who are sharing their constituents’ growing concern over dog theft.

The group will also have a stand in the main entrance lobby at Crufts next week and hope to get their message over to as many visitors to Crufts as possible.

DTA Co-ordinator Margaret Nawrockyi commented: "Please do contact us if you would like to talk to us during the four day period of Crufts. We will be outside the main hall, so please spare a few minutes to come over and show your support!"
