The Kennel Club will be working with Birmingham City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council throughout March, to help to ensure that the West Midlands is filled with well-informed dog owners who are welcomed by their local community, rather than frowned upon for spoiling public spaces.
The Kennel Club believes that responsible dog ownership is vital for all communities and through its Responsible Dog Ownership initiative promotes the importance of:
Dog training
Pet identification
Dog fouling and the need to clean up after our dogs
The Kennel Club will be supporting these two West Midlands councils by supplying dog waste bags, information leaflets, educational posters and stickers for dog waste bins that can be circulated throughout the region.
At present the Kennel Club offers a number of support services to help dog owners ensure they are able to meet their responsibilities with ease. These include Petlog – the largest pet identification service in the UK and the Good Citizen Dog Scheme – the UK’s largest dog-training programme.
The Kennel Club also co-ordinates the Kennel Club Charitable Trust – a charity that provides aid to a range of organisations and services to improve the world of dogs.
The Kennel Club will also be reinforcing these important messages about responsible dog ownership at Crufts 2005.
