Mr Robert Young (McMays)
The funeral of Mr Robert C Young (McMays) took place on Friday 6th May. He was 78 and had had a long and fruitful life in dogs.
Bob, as he was known, was a familiar figure in the North East of England, with his strong association with Darlington and The North British Canine Training Society; he was also President of the German Pinscher Club.
His affix was made up from the members of his family, Mildred, Colin, Malcolm, Angela, his sir name Young and his wife’s maiden name Sayers.
He first started in dogs 1948 with English Cocker Spaniels, Pekes and Chihuahuas. In the early 70’s he had great success with his Norwegian Buhunds, winning BOB at Crufts in 1978 and 79 with Ch McMays Atria (5cc’s) Ch McMays Alderbaron (10 ccs) & Ch Santruda Sylvi (11 CCs).
Bob judged at many shows here and abroad and his opinion was well respected. A BIS show judge who was passed to judge the Working, Pastoral and Utility groups, his last BIS award was at Driffield 2004.
He will be sadly missed by his family and also from the dog scene by many of today’s judges who were helped on their way to success with his help and encouragement.
He must be very proud that his daughter Angela is going to continue his affix McMays and campaign the young Beagle they had just purchased in partnership.
His family would like to thank all those who sent cards and flowers at this sad time, and to say a very special thanks to those who made the effort to come and pay their last respects to Bob.
