Ch Saklawi Bishah of Mabrooka - ‘Bambi’
13.6.87 - 13.9.05

We said a peaceful goodbye to Bambi on 13th September after an exceptional life spanning over 18 years.

Bred by Jean Wright out of Mabrooka Binaya of Saklawi, she holds the bitch CC record in the breed with 31 CCs all won under different judges, 23 with BOB and 14 RCCs.

In her prime, she won the Group and Reserve BIS at Richmond 1990 and the same award at Windsor in 1991, In addition to her Group wins she was also runner up on another four occasions at a time when there were no further group placings. Her last CC was won in her 11th year at the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Ch. Show in 1997 when she won Best Veteran and went on to Best in Show. She was shown only once more when the following year she was Best Veteran in Show at the Northern Saluki Club Ch. Show.

Bambi was never one who did things by halves and began breaking records at an early age. She was the first Saluki to qualify for the Dog World/Spillers POTY and gained 82 points for her Junior Warrant, a record for a bitch under the original points system. She was made up at Crufts '90 and was also BOB Crufts '93 reaching the last 7 in the Group. She qualified for the Pedigree Ch. Stakes finals in 1992 and earned the title of Top Saluki for 1990, 1991 & 1993 and was Top Brood Bitch 1995.

During her show career she took time out to whelp two litters which produced a German, an Australian, 3 British Champions and a further CC winner. Her daughter Ch. Mabrooka Miraya took over the title of Top Saluki in 1994 & 1995, her daughter Ch. Mabrooka Matara was Top Saluki bitch of 1996 and her son Ch. Mabrooka Khamriy was the Top Saluki 1999. Her grandson Ch. Mabrooka Jayid is arguably the greatest winning Saluki of all time in the UK. He was Top Hound all breeds in 2003 and has topped the breed for the last three years.

She left us a magnificent legacy through her offspring and some wonderful memories but she was first and foremost a much loved family pet and she is very sadly missed.
