Competitions galore at the Midland Game Fair

An exceptional range of working gundog events at this year’s Midland Game Fair will offer new challenges for the country’s top competitors, with a total prize package worth over £4000.

The Midland offers more gundog scurries than any other game fair, with a £2000 prize package from joint sponsors Runnarköp and Vitalin UK. This year’s show will include a revolutionary new Dog & Gun event, in association with Gear and Gundogs. Using the unique BANGO dummy system, the competition will simulate a real driven shoot, with dogs retrieving the dummies that are shot (or not!) by their handlers. Entries for the Dog & Gun will be taken on the main clay shooting line, and Gear and Gundogs have offered a superb remote control dummy launcher for the overall winner over both show days.

Other scurry events include the popular Pot Black “Gundog Snooker” competition, which was first devised at the Midland, the Long Retrieve, Partridge Pen, 5-Dummy Pick-Up, Novice Scurry and Victor Ludorum. The BASC will be running their popular “Chudley’s Challenge” four-scurry event, and the GCT will also be offering a water scurry competition.

Another new innovation for 2005 is the Dunragit “Have-a-Go” Working Test; the perfect place for novice handlers to experience a working test competition, with an Open class for more experienced competitors as well. Competition will consist of three tests including a water test.

The Dunragit Working Test will take place on Sunday 18th September with entries taken from 9.30am-4.00pm, and handlers can enter on the day. Judges will be Bert Taylor, Dave Benson and Carole Clarke.

Spectators can also enjoy the grand final of the Game Conservancy Trust National Fun Gundog Finals, with up to 100 competitors travelling from around the UK to take part in the Puppy and Open classes on the Saturday, and the Novice Dog and Novice Handler/Novice Dog competitions on the Sunday.

The Midland Game Fair takes place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September 2005 at Weston Park, Shropshire. For more information, telephone the Box Office on 0845 230 5175, or visit www.countrymanfairs.co.uk.
