Walk this way for Battersea!

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has teamed up with the Rangers of Epping Forest to host a sponsored dog walk on 29 April, between 10am and 4pm.

The event aims to encourage dog owners from all around the region to hit the forest trail and help raise much-needed funds to care for London’s lost and abandoned animals.

And what better way than a stroll through some of the most beautiful woodlands in the county to remind people of the benefits of dog walking, which not only helps owners and pets to keep fit but has also been shown to help reduce stress?

Starting from the Chingford Plain area of Epping Forest, walking routes of 3k and 5k will be marked out, with participants setting out in staggered groups to avoid overcrowding along the route. Refreshments for dogs and humans will be available at the start and finish line, and Battersea staff will be on hand to promote responsible dog ownership, offer microchipping and give free behaviour advice. The City of London Police dog-handler display team will also be coming along to put on a show demonstrating their dogs’ amazing skills, and EFRA and the Chigwell Riding Trust will also be attending.

Fiona Healey-Hutchinson, Director of Fundraising at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home says:

‘The sponsored walk is a chance for families to get out with their dog and get active, and what could be more pleasant than a Sunday walk in the forest with a happy dog? Absolutely anyone can take part as you don’t necessarily have to own a dog yourself – maybe a neighbour or a family friend has a dog just panting for a long walk? It’s a wonderful opportunity to make friends with other local dog walkers and users of the Forest, whilst raising valuable funds for the dogs and cats of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.’

Registration for the event is £5, and Battersea are asking participants to raise a minimum of £20 in sponsorship. To receive a registration pack please contact Lisa on 0870 890 0000 or email fundraising@dogshome.org.
