A greyhound calendar like no other

Action for Greyhounds Action for Greyhounds

THE Greyhound protection group Action for Greyhounds UK (AFG) have put together a calendar for 2010 that is believed the first of its kind ever published.

AFG campaigns for the abolition of greyhound racing and promote greyhounds as pets. In addition and resources permitting, AFG facilitate the care and future security of greyhounds unwanted and abused.

Not surprisingly, the calendar features greyhounds but that is where the similarity with other greyhound calendars ends. The photographs are of nine greyhounds rescued by AFG and a further three greyhounds belonging to supporters and the imagery is supported by text relating to the dogs featured and remembering greyhounds lost.

February features black female Rum Gal. Her story in the calendar reads: “When of no further use or value as a racing dog, Rum Gal was not placed with a rescue but rather homed independently and seemingly off-loaded without any concern given for the animal’s future welfare and security. Months later Rum Gal was picked up as a stray on the streets of Norwich.”

Additional text on the inside page gives an overview of what AFG consider are the inevitable welfare issues associated with greyhound racing. The back cover has information about the group that is run solely buy volunteers. All proceeds from the sale of calendars will be used to further the work of AFG.

The 14 x A4 page calendar costs £7.95 plus £1.00 towards post and packing (P&P charge not applicable on orders for more than 3 calendars). Cheques are payable to: Action for Greyhounds UK. Alternatively, payment can be made via PayPal.
