Louis G Jadin A Favorite Poodle 1877

Louis Godefroy Jadin was a prominent animal and landscape painter who first exhibited his work at the prestigious Paris Salon of 1831, winning medals in 1840 and 1855.

He studied under several prominent French artists and eventually became a painter to Napoleon III (1852-1876), who wanted to revive the hunting glories of past French kings.

Perhaps best known for his paintings of Napoleon's hunting dogs, he was equally skilled at portraying the dogs of French high society. While not named, Jadin has here captured the sweet and somewhat quizzical expression of this Parti-Colored Poodle.
