A drawing from another age

THIS ILLUSTRATION is from a book plate. The book is entitled ‘Sheepdog Glory’ written and illustrated by Roy Saunders, published in 1956 by Andre Deutsch Ltd.

Roy Saunders was a school teacher at Cardiff High School and the book is a true ‘biography’ of Toss a Border Collie who became a top winning working sheepdog at sheepdog trials. Roy Saunders kept a flock of sheep and there was an outbreak of Foot & Mouth on the farm next to him and all the cattle were destroyed. He relates how his stock was tested clear of the disease but that he was instructed by the Ministry of Agriculture to keep his flock restricted - the illustration shows him putting up the notice on his farm gate.
