On 3 & 4 December 2005 the Amsterdam RAI Congress & Exhibition Centre will host the annual Winner International Dog Show, this year being the 116th of the series.
The Winner is the largest 2-day international dog show in the Netherlands. The previous show saw 4500 wonderful dogs and included 280 breeds. They competed in the various breeds and classes to qualify for titles like Youth Winner / Youth Winster, Winner / Winster, Best of Breed, Best of FCI Group and ultimately Best in Show.
The most popular breeds were the Golden Retriever, Labrador Retrievers, American Staffordshire Terrier and English Cocker Spaniel. The rarer breeds that could be seen were the Bayerische Gebirgschweisshund, the Broholmer, the Cirnecco dell ‘Etna, Drever, the Hannoverischer Schweisshund, the Kishu, and the Otterhound.
The international character of the show means that dogs come from far and wide, is proven by the fact that about 30 % of exhibitors and visitors come from outside the Netherlands. An increasing number of entries has been registered from countries like Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, and - not to be forgotten - Ireland and the United Kingdom, even the United States.
This year the team has carefully selected a body of well-known and internationally esteemed judges, who will be assisted by about 200 ringmasters and -stewards. The Winner, Amsterdam is the only dog show in the Netherlands where participating dogs can qualify for participation at Crufts.
