Dogs used to sniff out bird flu

SNIFFER DOGS are being deployed at main airports across the UK in an aim to keep bird flu out of Britain.

Customs chiefs have said that two dogs are checking flights from Turkey and Romania at Manchester Airport, as well as six dogs operating between Heathrow and Gatwick.

They are searching for banned meat, live or dead birds, feathers and eggs in luggage carried by passengers arriving from the two countries where outbreaks have been confirmed. The checks are being made as a precaution, as even eating an infected chicken will not pass the disease to humans.
