Obituary - Diane Pearce

Diane PearceIt is with much sadness and shock that we report the passing of former OUR DOGS photographer, Diane Pearce. Di died unexpectedly, in Luton & Dunstable Hospital, following a short illness, 25th May.
Based in Whipsnade, Bedfordshire for many years, her legacy is her amazing archive of dog show photography taken in 1960’s, ‘70s and ‘80s. This wonderful collection is now housed at the Kennel Club Picture library in Clarges Street. Di was a stalwart of the dog scene and together with her partner of some fifty years, Marjory Williams (ace handler of the GSD and other breeds), they were to be seen at most general championship shows during that time. A renowned photographer of German Shepherd Dogs Di was always cheery and was often seen carrying a pair of garden shears with her so she could ensure the grass was just right when she was photographing! When engaged in private photo shoots, Marjorie would often be accompained by two Persian cats which were always guraranteed to the get the attention of the dog Di was photographing!
Many dog people of that era will also remember Di working alongside another well known name in dog photography, Cyril Cooke. Their occasional ‘disputes’ regarding who should photograph what in and in what ring, certainly kept the OUR DOGS team on their toes at the time!
Over the years, Di was sort after by numerous top kennels for photography especially when they wanted photos for their annual adverts, so much so that many of her photgraphs graced the pages of the Annuals and the canine press during that period. Our deepest sympathy and all our love to Marjorie at this sad time.
